Another Gaze is seeking submissions for its fourth print issue, to be released this December.
Another Gaze is a printed and online journal, founded as a sustained and evolving forum for discussion around women and the moving image. Our first, second and third issues – distributed worldwide – contain essays, reviews, fragments and interviews on narrative, documentary and experimental film work, and cover women as filmmakers, spectators and filmic subjects.
We’re open to all forms of writing from all kinds of writers and would be pleased to receive more experimental pitches. The writing we publish is thorough and research-based but not opaque or academic. We are particularly, though not exclusively, interested in the following subject areas for our fourth issue:
• Commodity (film) feminism
• Auto/biography
• Sex scenes
• Subtitles and translation
• Borrowing dangerously
• Imagined adaptations
• Objects in film
• Actresses
We very much encourage intersectional approaches that include discussions of sexuality, non-binary gender, race, class and disability. As a couple of the above categories suggest, we are interested in writing that is actively and openly critical. A recent article dissected the ‘memeification’ of Agnès Varda; another unpicked Ulrike Ottinger’s cultural borrowings.
We are able to pay a small fee for successful submissions. Please send a pitch (300 words max) along with two previous writing samples (PDF or Word document) to editorial at another gaze dot com. We will be commissioning throughout the month of September. If you would prefer to be commissioned then please send a list of your interests along with two writing samples.
